Many people take medication every day, and several kinds can affect the mouth. The most common effect is a dry mouth, because some medications reduce the amount of saliva. This includes some medications for allergies, high blood pressure, anxiety and low mood.

Why does it matter?

With less saliva, part of your teeth's protection is lost, and the risk of cavities and gum inflammation can go up. Some liquid medicines and syrups can also contain sugar.
