Frequently asked questions

Short answers to what most people wonder before seeing a dental hygienist.

Before you book

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly with me.

How do I book?

Call 08-120 59 666 or send a request. I will get back to you as soon as I can.

What does a visit cost?

Prices are individual and depend on your needs and the state of your oral health, so there is no fixed price. At every visit I first assess your oral health. Based on that you receive a cost estimate and a treatment plan, and we only begin treatment once you have approved them. You are welcome to call or send a request if you have questions before booking.

Can I book even if nothing hurts?

Yes. Much of what we prevent is not noticeable at first, such as tartar and gum inflammation.

What is the difference between a dental hygienist and a dentist?

A hygienist works on prevention, cleaning and gum health. A dentist treats things like cavities. Read more here.

How often should I see a dental hygienist?

Many people come once or twice a year, but it depends on your oral health. Read more here.

During the visit

What happens at the first visit?

We go through your teeth and gums, I clean them, and you get simple home-care advice.

Does it hurt?

Most people find it comfortable. Tell me if anything feels uncomfortable and I will adjust.

I am afraid of the dentist. Can I still come?

Yes, you are not alone. Tell me when you book. I explain every step, you can pause whenever you want, and you set the pace.

Do I need to prepare?

No, brush as usual. Feel free to bring a list of your medications.

Treatments

What is tartar?

Tartar is plaque that has hardened. It cannot be brushed off at home. Read more here.

What is Airflow?

Airflow cleans teeth with water, air and a fine powder. It removes stains, for example from coffee, tea and snus.

Will my teeth be whiter after Airflow?

Surface stains disappear so your natural tooth colour shows. It is not bleaching.

What is fluoride treatment?

Fluoride makes tooth enamel stronger against acid. It helps if you have a dry mouth, sensitive teeth or get cavities easily.

Can you help with gum disease?

Yes, I help with treatment and advice for gum problems. If you need a dentist, I will tell you.

After the visit and at home

Can my teeth feel different afterwards?

Yes. They often feel smooth and clean. After tartar removal they can be a little sensitive for a short while.

How often should I brush?

Twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, and clean between your teeth every day.

How do I avoid tartar?

Brush carefully, clean between your teeth and come for regular visits. Some people still build up more tartar than others.
