What causes gingivitis?

  • Plaque and tartar left along the gum line.
  • Smoking and snus.
  • Hormonal changes, for example during pregnancy.
  • Dry mouth, which can be caused by some medications.

What helps

  • Brush twice a day and clean between your teeth every day.
  • Have a dental hygienist remove tartar, see tartar removal.
  • It is normal for gums to bleed a little in the first days when you start cleaning more carefully. It usually stops after a couple of weeks.

When should you get help?

Book a visit if your gums still bleed after a couple of weeks, if your teeth feel loose, or if you have a bad taste in your mouth that does not go away. Book a visit and we will look at it together.

Frequently asked questions

Does gingivitis go away?
